Kami's Points For September

Here's where I'm going to post my totals everyday. I might just put the date and the total number to make it easy. When I post my totals, I won't do a new post, I'll just edit my old one so I'll only have one post for the month.
I'm so excited! Love you guys!
Kami
9/1 = 7 pts! :o) I actually doubled up on the workout (walking) and had a dessert, so it evened out. How did you all do?
9/2=6 pts. No walking for me today...wish I would have. Almost gave in tonight and made some cookies at 10 pm. But, then I'd lose two points if I did. I had Chamomile Tea instead. Maybe I'll make the cookies tomorrow :)
9/3= 4 pts. Oh dear. I was doing so good, I did have a coke, but I enjoyed it SO MUCH, that I was okay losing the point. Then, after we put the kids to bed Patrick made me a shake. There went 2 points!
9/4= 4 pts. again. I WILL do better tomorrow!
9/5=4 pts.
9/6=4pts.
9/7= 6pts. Yay!
9/8= 5 pts. My definite downfall is sugar
9/9= 4 pts. Ate too late, forgot my vitamin and didn't walk :o( Tomorrow is a new day! :o)
9/10=5 pts
9/11=3 pts
9/11=2 pts
9/12=4 pts
9/13 1 point...that's horrible! PTL for multi-vitamins!
9/14=5
9/15=5
9/16=2pts....I hated to even post it!
9/17=4 pts.
9/18=4 pts.
9/19=3 pts.
9/20=2 pts
9/21 2 pts.
9/22 1 pt
9/23 3 pts.
9/24 =5 pts.

My August Block

Finally, I'm posting my block. I've had it done for a couple of weeks, I just haven't posted it. This is by far my favorite one yet. I'm ready to make a whole quilt of this block! The girls are planning on working on theirs tomorrow. This might be the last block for them and they'll put the three blocks they've done together to make a foot warmer for the bottom of their bed. Mom, get ready....we're going to step it up a degree of difficulty next month! Love you all!

August Block

I love the August Block too. This one is Dad's favorite so far. I like the white background the best.
I couldn't get the points perfectly together but that's the beauty of homemade quilts is their imperfections. :-)

July Block

Hi, here is the July Block and I love it too. I just love quilting and can't wait to put it all together. I couldn't decide if you could see the colors better with the wood background or the white....so as you can see I posted both. :-)
I think I like the white background the best.
Now I want to see the other July blocks. Get to work girls. Love you all.

August Block

I was thinking about waiting to post the August Block until I saw some pictures of July blocks, but I received a very demanding email, so I changed my mind. :o) Ha Ha, just kidding. I know we've all been so busy with our summer, and this is a HOBBY, so there's no pressure. Sometimes the funnest thing about a hobby is just thinking about what you would do next! We finished our July blocks yesterday, and now I'm ready to start August blocks.
I love love love this pattern. I've always wanted to try to do triangles, and this seems an easy one to ease us in to it. I already sent Mam-maw the pattern in the mail.
Here's the link!

Be sure and click on page 2 and the people's names of the quilts they've made with this pattern. I think this one will turn out great! Have fun!

We finished our July blocks (just in time!) and we think they turned out so beautiful. I really love this pattern, and now I have the quilting bug! I'd like to do a quilt all in this block. Tomorrow I will post August block. It's so gorgeous, I can't wait to begin it!

Other sewing projects between quilting blocks.

I've been busy with other projects between sewing the quilting blocks. Coulottes/skirt for Emily for Camp.
Tote Bag for Florence for her retirement.

Coulottes/skirt for Elisabeth and Brenna.

Hooter Hider for Silas.

Cozy Blanket for Silas for those cold Canadian nights.

Dress for me. :-) I painted the palm trees. Took me three tries to get the look that I wanted but, I'm pleased with the way it turned out.

50's Coverlet for my 50's Housewife Daughter....Keela. I still need to do some finishing touches on this one.

Tote bag with crayon holder for Logan.

Tote bag with crayon holder for Ty.

And another bag... for Emily. She asked how much fabric did I need to make one and she brought me some. If any of my Grandchildren would like a little simple bag, just bring me a yard of your favorite fabric and I will make one for you.

Our June Blocks

Better Late Than Never!! We finished our block a couple of weeks ago, but I hadn't posted them yet. Here they are! I'm like Tab, it took us a little longer than we thought. After several tearing out stitches (and a few tears) we finished and think they look beautiful. The girls decided they are just going to do one block a month and make either a wall hanging or "foot" quilt for their bed.

Our First Blocks

We finished our first blocks tonight. It took a little longer than I thought it would. The girls are doing a great job learning how to use the rotary cutter and both are becoming more proficient at using the machine. I think the next one will go much faster. We plan to start on 2nd block next week. We need to finish it before Emily leaves for camp on the 22nd.

My First Block - MOM

I finished my first block. It doesn't look like the colors go together but I know when it's finished and the forth color is added it will all go together making my block quilt. Now, I have to start thinking of what I want to name it. With 4 different colors....maybe I'll call it.....KTKT. :-)

Cutting our Fabric

Wednesday night Keela Taylin and I got together to cut out our fabric. Tabitha had to work and Mark was out of town so she couldn't make
it. :-( We had so much fun. We were laughing so hard just trying to read the pattern. When Kami posted the first pattern, Keela went on line and saw the first one then at the last minute Kami decided to start on a different one. So, Keela had a different pattern than Taylin and I. We called Kami and went with the one Taylin and I had which is what Kami, Tabitha and Mother are all doing. It's exciting and I can't wait to see the results.

Me, getting started. You know how I have to have everything lined up.

Are you ready??

First of all...I love ALL the fabrics everyone picked! Each set seems to match each person's personality!
Tabitha and I were talking, and to make a twin size quilt (or a couch size quilt) you will need about 20 blocks. (We'll talk about backing and border material in a few months.) So, each month a pattern will be posted. You need to make 2 of these blocks. So, only cut enough for 2 blocks. If you're wanting a bigger quilt, you would need to make more. The first pattern is super easy. It's just two different sizes of squares, but it's so neat looking. I love it! It only has 3 colors, so it's up to you which colors you use. The two blocks can be completely different looking by using different colors. You can make both the same or 2 different blocks. It's up to you. Also, these are easy that you could easily make the block in one day. Or you could do a little through out the month....cut one day, sew some another day....you have all month, so no pressure!
As we move on, I'd like to try a little bit more challenging blocks. Hope you have a fun time making our first block. Remember to post pictures as you go!
Love you all,
Kami

Tay's Quilt

After almost an hour, 5 different color schemes, and a few opinions from random JoAnn Fabrics shoppers I finally settled on these bright fabrics. I love it! Not to thrilled with the brown and the orange being so much a like but, I think they will work well. If not I bought a back up just in case :) I think I am going to like this whole sewing thing. Now, if I can just figure out how to thread the machine I will be ready. Mom, I need a sewing lesson!!

Hello everyone!! This is the fabric that I selected. I love it!! It is exactly what I was looking for, I wanted something that looks like I am a farm wife and I am using my families clothes to make a quilt! When mom saw the fabric that has the green back ground she said ( and I quote) "MAN THAT IS UGLY!" but I love it anyway!
I am trying to find someone with a Joanns coupon for 40% off so that I can go get a rotary cutter. If you have one I would be willing to trade it for scrapbooking supplies!
The twins and I went to look a Barnes and Noble and we looked at quilt books. WOW! There are some cool ones out there! Today I want to get to the library to see if they have any. Why are quilting books sosososo expensive?
I love you girls and can't wait to get to cutting!

YEAH!!!! I've got my Fabric!!! MOM :-)
I finally have my fabric, Keela and I went together and we had a great time. I went with a totally different one then I started with. Someday I will do the other one but I like what I have. The cutting lady asked me if I was making a flower quilt??? I replied No, we're making blocks and then putting them together. DUH all the fabric is flowers :-) . Then Keela walked up and told her the whole story how we were all doing it and two other sisters live here and the other one in Canada and Grandmother in Michigan. The lady was so nice and helpful. We already have ideas for the next project. :-) Can't wait to get started. Love you all, Love, MOM

Sarah's Fabric

Hey Everyone,
First I was going to go with all polkadots. I went to the wedding section and found the cakes. But my mom said when I came back to her "Your going to do it all wedding themed?"
But I told her it is not a wedding cake because it doesn't have a bride and groom on top. We decided it was a party cake.

The first fabric is hot pink but in the picture it looks red.

I also know, just as Emily knows that when I go to sleep when it is done I will have made it all myself. I hope you do too.
Love,
Sarah

Emily's Fabric

hello fellow quilters,

At first I wanted light greens and a light pink, but when I saw the butterfly print with the stripes I loved it.
I think it is so much fun to know that when I go to sleep with my new quilt that I will have made it all by myself.

Tabitha's Fabric

Hi Everyone,

I told Emily and Sarah that I wasn't going to use brown and lo and behold....they all have brown. I just love brown.

The first one is not pink at all, but on my monitor it does appear a bit pink.

We each bought 1 1/2 yards to be save.

One more week

Okay everyone! You have about a week left to buy fabric, then post it on the blog! I'm ready to see everyone's colors!
Also, it has been mentioned that it would be better to have a little bit bigger of a quilt....so we need to decide what to do.
We could
#1 Make the same block 2 times each month, so we would finish with 18 blocks
or
#2 Do this for 12 months and then we would make a larger border so it would fit a twin
or
#3 Make a new block every 2 weeks and be done in 9 months with 18 blocks.

I need everyones "vote" in as soon as possible and we'll decide this by Friday!
Love you all!

Hi this is Brenna

This is my fabric for the quilting club. I can't wait to start this. I'm excited to start it!

This is Elisabeth, I bought my fabric

This is my fabric for my quilt. I bought the second one and we already had the rest.

I've got my fabric!! From Kami

The girls and I went to Fabricville today and bought our fabric. The store was very nice, but a little different than our JoAnn's. The fabric looked a little different too, and they had very little quilting fabric. They cut the material by the meter. So, I got a meter of each of mine. Three of them are actually a different kind with a little bit of a raised pattern in it. I love it and am so excited to get started!!

Here's the Plan

I am so excited about this!
First of all you need to pick out your fabric. It would be good to have at least 4 fabrics to choose from. It would also be good to have one of those be a lighter fabric and one a darker fabric , but whatever colors you would like to do will be fine. Try to pick about a yard of each. The quilt blocks we'll be making will be 10". At the end of 9 months we'll have 9 blocks to assemble into a quilt. The patterns will be very easy and take very little time. I'm thinking by the time you cut and sew your fabric, it may take an hour or two, tops. That's not bad for a month! You need to have your fabric picked out by June 1st. Then, I'll post the pattern that you'll have to work on for the month of June. If you can, post the pictures of the fabric you pick and progress you're making. It will be neat to see how everybody's doing with their project or questions they have. (I'm hoping Mam-maw can help us with the questions part! :) ) I'll send you the password to the blog.
I love you all, and I'm so excited we're doing this together.
